In an open letter issues on New Jersey Libertarian Party Stationery, concerned Libertarians from several states strongly condemned the conduct of the Libertarian Party leaderships of New Hampshire and Colorado for issuing statements laden with racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, transphobia, and Islamophobia. “…we are formally denouncing their message, behavior, and leadership. The two-page letter called for the good liberty-loving people of those states to take corrective action:

If the LP wants to be seen as opposed to racism it is very easy to speak openly against the laws and policies that have their roots wrapped in the nation’s racist history. That can be done politely. It might also wake whites up to the cost they are paying since the laws effect all of us for the most part. I think LP News might have published an article I originally wrote for FEE on the issue. If the LP put these on the website as issues maybe the state parties might be a bit reluctant to say something different. Here’s a short list; zoning. building codes. the drug war, urban transit, occupational licensing to start with. These policies also cost a lot. California, New York, Boston Washington State are at the top of the list for higher housing cost thanks to zoning laws. If the Libertarians in these places want to pay higher cost. Not much can be done.

I think that’s a typo, should be Colorado?
Fixed, thanks.
When leaders from New Jersey are calling out what’s happening in Colorado, you know the problem has gone national.
As someone in Colorado, I can tell you—they’re not wrong. The LPCO leadership has been actively gatekeeping members, publicly discrediting long-time Libertarians (myself included), and manipulating convention logistics to silence dissent. It’s not just bad behavior—it’s a calculated effort to consolidate power by shutting out anyone who doesn’t toe the line.
Liberty should mean open dialogue, inclusion, and principled disagreement—not purges, purity tests, and performative cruelty. The fact that New Jersey felt compelled to issue this kind of letter says a lot. It’s time more of us within the state stand up and say: this isn’t what we signed up for.
Using incendiary rhetoric to push the party’s platform is an old tradition. Libertarians are, after all, the disenchanted voting block. We see the current system and have taken the step forward to disavow it. We do so loudly in front of every American voter and politician alike.
Our platform is far more socially unacceptable than any racist or bigoted message. The fact that these affiliates have turned to these sorts of cheap attention grabbing methods just shows how far our party has strayed from it. We’ve been offering politicians compromises instead of demands. We most recently accepted their crumbs in exchange for quieting down. Look where that has gotten us. 2 affiliates getting more attention than any other, yet they rarely push the platform itself. Just trashy words for clicks and attention from a fringe element that no intelligent person wants to associate with anyway.
We need to bring back the things that the government hates the most. They hate your guns. They love the fact that they can pillage your paycheck for Social Security and Medicare taxes. Above all, they appreciate how many Americans have become so economically illiterate they won’t even question their budgets and spending anymore. These things. This was our job, and we have failed. We killed the owl and freed the dove.
