Statement from the Libertarian Party of San Francisco
The Libertarian Party of San Francisco firmly believes that all affiliates—whether at the state or county level—should uphold the core principles and bylaws of the national Libertarian Party.
In light of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire’s continued support for authoritarian rhetoric and tactics, as well as their open endorsement of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, we no longer recognize them as an official affiliate of the Libertarian Party.
Furthermore, the refusal of the Libertarian National Committee majority to condemn this rogue affiliate leaves us with no choice but to take a principled stand. We encourage other affiliates who view the actions of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire as hypocritical and antithetical to our values to join us in openly rejecting their affiliation.
We believe liberty is not served by abandoning principle for provocation, nor by aligning with figures who openly oppose our core beliefs.
Another Libertarian Party local affiliate, along with LP of Guadalupe County, taking a principled stance regarding LPNH, something the current LNC refuses to do or cannot do.
Kudos LP of San Francisco!
I will say it again…. One of the fastest ways for a nonprofit board of directors (LNC) to lead its own organization into (further) irrelevancy is to ignore or selectively enforce its own bylaws.
I am probably one of the younger readers here. The 2020 election was the first election I could vote for as an adult. Long story short the following years were not the best time to discover and assess the LP.
The leading comparison I hear is ‘Republicans on pot’ and this is what I have to agree with the resemblance on a national and Michigan level. Alternatives are very sparse my neck of the woods. I seem to have turned out acutely ‘leftward libertarian’ verses the majority that either veers the other way or seems deeply wrong to even current declared libertarian positions.
This statement doesn’t help me much but I appreciate there is at least one portion of the LP somewhere I would be pleased to support.
