Geraci Runs for LNC Position

Pietro Salvatore Geraci has announced that he is a candidate for election to the Libertarian National Committee, which currently has two open At-Large positions.  He writes us:

I’m declaring my candidacy to fill one of the vacant at-large positions on the LNC. I believe we need to prioritize fundraising and memberships and cut down on drama in the public list. If elected, I would like to serve on the Affiliate Support Committee, as my role as Outreach Director for the LPNY involves affiliate support, making me well-suited for that committee. If I am required to serve on a second committee, I would choose candidate support. I’m willing to call prospective, current and past donors; just give me phone numbers and a script.

I also want to pursue reconciliation with the Liberal Party.

Please reach out to pgeraci@lpny.org with any questions.

One of the most dramatic people involved in moving a lot of intraparty drama resolutions out of LPNY. Is this a joke?

      I’m not dramatic, I’m Sicilian!

Tony D’Orazio formerly of New York now in Pennsylvania has also
thrown his hat into the ring for one of the At Large Positions. This
was announced by him on LPAlliance podcast a few days ago.

He wants to do outreach, but what is he promoting? He needs to get into the details.

As Outreach Director, I help develop new county affiliates and assist current ones with their operations. As an LNC rep I would focus on getting people to restore their BSM through exemplifying professionalism and working to build a party people want to invest in. I would talk with Liberal Party leadership to find out what it would take to get those people back and pursue those solutions.

Geraci wants to cut down on drama. Many would agree with this. But how to practically solve this problem? That’s a bit more difficult.

One approach might be to start holding all LNC meetings in-person. At each LNC meeting there would be a box of thousands of LP flyers. Each and every LNC member would then be responsible for going door-to-door in the host LNC city to hand out their share of this box of LP flyers. Any leftover flyers = no voting at the LNC meeting. Most assuredly, this would reduce the number of members on the LNC, because most Libertarians are all about talk but not about action.

That is impractical. There is a limited amount of time at in person meetings.

Cortez’s suggestion is hilarious, but spot-on! I was an LP activist in several states and noted a common theme in each. Libertarians – particularly the party leadership – generally didn’t want to do the nitty gritty work to build the party. You know, canvassing, outreach booths, and phone calls to members and lapsed members.

Libertarians like to portray themselves as brilliant capitalists. One part of capitalism is time management. Haywood’s comment indicates the Libertarian lack of time management skills and the need to remove the bloviators from the LNC. His comment furthermore drives home Cortez’s point that “Libertarians are all about talk but not about action.”

I have 45 years in the LP in three different states and Mr. Winooski is correct. In my time I have put in about 700 hours in booths and spent a few years getting a news letter out. I have worked with some good people but I have also worked with far to many who are all talk and no action.
