Building is under contract and will be sold within a week.
On August 5, Vice Chair Paul Darr held an open question and answer session with LPUS Members.
Your Editors notes on the meeting follow. Paul Darr asked to review for points where he might want to clarify, and has made two minor additions, corresponding to hings that I remember him saying but did not record.
I hope I caught what you were saying.
Darr Holds Open Meeting with LPUS Members
We reached 28 attendees at one point. Paul Darr wanted to have a path for members to interact with the LNC. These monthly meetings are the path. He believes that they represent a positive change from the past.
Video meetings will be second Monday in the future.
He showed interesting graphs of membership questions. He asked readers of his newsletter to answer various questions and about 100 did.
A member asked for the crosstabs on the polls.
Discussion: Should we support candidates who are not Libertarian Party candidates, but might agree with us on some issues.
He supports Knebel for LNC At-Large; Knebel has 20 years financial experience.
There has been some significant fundraising this month: $10K from Evan McMahon’s fundraiser and a maximal donation probably incoming.
The HQ will be sold in about a week. Money will go into a high-interest account, which is good. We did not have the money to fix the building or maintain it. We had to sell it as is. Apparently the price was unimpressive.
Recruit candidates, raise money, support candidates. He has heard good things about Project Archimedes and new technology to do it better. Also recruit members as the foundation to accomplish that.
Darr urges people to join the national party to boost delegate count for their states. We win by building up the party.
Material in the Headquarters of historical value has been rescued. Other material has been dealt with appropriately (sold/given away/shredded). Also anything convention related was rescued. That falls under other material but people asked about that.
Material for LP news is appreciated.
Darr views volunteers positively. He thinks that his view is a positive change for the future. Staff has been pared to the bone. If we pare any farther, the national party somewhat stops working.
LNC will try to recover money from last year if there are adequate donations or a pro bono attorney. We do not have the money elsewise. Needed donations or attorneys have not yet materialized.
Audio and Video coverage of LNC meetings was discussed. The Owl device disappeared about a year ago. The Texas meeting will hopefully be an improvement.
Being on the LNC has been challenging. Some members have on and off considered resigning.
The 2026 convention is on track to be successful, but we need a large rather than a small convention. 2028 convention date is being considered. The Convention Committee is trying to avoid speakers that would lead to boycotts. Convention: We want a product that people want to buy. Ideas on the convention are appreciated.
Is there a breakdown or spreadsheet somewhere of which state parties are MC-led and which are not? I’m having thoughts somewhere similar to the FSP where people are urged to join up in the MC-led states to try and topple those delegations.
(For example, the Southern state in which I currently live is so far off to the right, LP-wise, that they refused to support Chase Oliver because he was gay. )
You can look at how the state delegations voted during the 2024 convention. This is the only map of the final vote that I am aware of. I’m sure you can find the data somewhere. https://web.archive.org/web/20240904015438/https://www.nota300.com/
Thank you. The video at the top of the page was vile.
I’ll consider paying dues once I see the LP getting into some details on issues. Here are two comments on zoning that I think would help the LP if it cared to show some concern over promoting prosperity for all of us.
“According to some estimates, by restricting migration to the most productive regions in the United States, land use regulations generate an annual cost to the economy of up to US$1.95 trillion or 13.6 percent of gross domestic product.” https://www.anderson.ucla.edu/sites/default/files/document/2022-08/2022-02wp.pdf
Racist origin, “That no negro can move into a block in which more than half of the residents are white….That a violator of the law is punishable by a fine of not more than $100 or imprisonment of from 30 days to 1 years, or both….That no section of the city is exempted from the conditions of the ordinance. It applies to every house.— Excerpts from Baltimore’s first racial-zoning ordinance (as summarized in the Baltimore Sun, December 20, 1910)” https://urbanland.uli.org/a-brief-history-of-racial-zoning-neighborhood-associations-and-municipal-zoning
Which LPUS members?
Most that I know (and I am one, and secretary of the NH affiliate) are members because they know the LP brand has already been destroyed. Not everyone came from the LP (I am a former Republican), but all are fed up with the Big Two and don’t find the LP to be a an attractive option.
Why not buy a new Owl? It’s not expensive and worked well after the 2nd mic was added. Stupid that this was ‘lost.” Hmmmm………. anyone askl AM?
Sale of the “Nolan Memorial Headquarters”: I want my contribution offered back. Let there be a roll call vote of the LNC so we can see who is in favor of keeping the money vs. who is in favor of doing the right thing by offering the money back to the contributors.
Here’s a comment that Libertarians need to think about. “Your brand is what other people say about you when you’re not in the room.”
― Jeff Bezos
Until this new leadership takes accountability for Adrian and the hell he put people through and goes after Angela, they are done. We have to wait for convention. As far as me and the harassment, all I want is an apology and the men are too proud to give it. Good leaders humble themselves and own their mistakes. I don’t think Steve ever will but he should. But I had the highest opinion of Darr. As a religious man, I hope one day God convicts him to apologize.
Why did he support a serial harasser and ignore that behaviour for months? That would have been a good question. Yes I know, he allegedly made a promise. Yeah, he was there when Nekhaila made a promise to all of us and didn’t keep it. True religion doesn’t tolerate serial harassers or those who make unwanted lewd comments to women. It’s too little, too late. The next LNC will be the one to carry the torch.
