During August, sustaining membership in the national Libertarian Party increased from 9399 to 9868, an increase of 469 members. National Director Hannah Kennedy warned that a portion of the increase arose from continued efforts to clean up membership records, which had not been entirely well-maintained. As a result of these maintenance issues, the July membership numbers were probably also in error, but have not been corrected.

The continual discrepancy in numbers is unacceptable. We are now at n a litigious age where delegate numbers have to be trusted. I could say more and have privately to an LNC member to address but the fake jumps in affiliate counts isn’t right. I don’t mean fake as in numbers aren’t real – I don’t know – but they didn’t jump in a month.
National has only a few jobs to do. This is not me.
An random anecdotal bit: When I used to be a National member, I would get reminded repeatedly to renew. Mailing after mailing. Sometimes long after I’d already renewed. But when I e-mailed National to resign after the MC takeover, the silence was deafening. Not only did I not receive a reply to inform me that my request had been processed, I’ve never gotten an e-mail or a mailing since to even lift a finger to regain me as a member. Heck, SiriusXM worked their hind ends off to keep me as a subscriber when I tried to quit them – but National’s attitude was like “Fine. Just go then. Be that way.”
