Brian Moore, founder of Naturecoast Coalition for Peace and Justice and the 2008 Socialist Party USA presidential nominee, has announced that he will run for the position of Florida Green Party Co-Chair. Florida Greens will meet later this month for the Green Party of Florida Annual Membership Meeting to select new party officers and workshop on party business.

As a candidate for Co-Chair of the Florida Green Party, I wish to go on record as endorsing the candidacy of Cornel West as the official nominee of the Green Party USA for President of the United States in the 2024 elections

Several weeks ago I sent e-mails to the Green Party Presidential Nomination Committee for 2024 urging them to plan the location of the GP national convention in 2024 in either the Greater Tampa Bay-St. Petersburg Metro area, or In the Panhandle/Panama City, Florida area.  We need to make Florida more viable for and inviting to the Green Party nationwide.

Furthermore, I am running for the Florida Green Party Co-Chair position, 2023-2024 term, because I have concluded that the state party is moribund, dying and, sadly, with a small aging leadership coming to an end.

As an observer over the previous years, and as a FLGP member since January, 2021, I have been told and have personally witnessed the deterioration of the FLGP due to a significant decrease of registered members, loss of regional GP offices, bitter in-fighting, resignations of officers, and an absent and incommunicable male Co-Chair.

Furthermore, the Florida Green Party’s failure to submit financial reports on time in 2022 jeopardized the official status of the party in the state of Florida, and was led by undemocratic and tyrannical statewide leadership, mostly from Pinellas County.

In addition, the State of Florida Green Party has had a history of a dearth of GP candidates for local and statewide offices in Florida.  It has never run candidates for statewide office, including for Governor, U.S. Senator, and any of the five Constitutional offices.

When I ran for GovernorIn 2022, Ballot Access News and Independent Political Report published articles indicating I was the very first Green Party candidate in Florida to run for Governor, and the first minor party candidate in over 100 years to run for Governor of Florida.  Ultimately, due to a lack of funds, I had to run for state senate instead, and received over 64,000 votes, one of the better third party results in the nation in 2022.

This past year, no Green Party candidates ran for the open U.S. Senate position, nor for any of the five constitutional office positions.  And I was only one GP candidate, out of 40 state senate positions to run, and there was only one GP candidate for the 120 state representative positions (Robin Harris in Orlando area).

In the 2022 elections there were 16 uncontested or unchallenged races for state senate in Florida out of a total of 40 seats!  There were 51 uncontested or unchallenged races for state representative in Florida out of a total of 120 positions!

Where has the leadership of the Florida Green Party been in attracting new members and urging them to run for any of the seventy (70) uncontested positions in the state of Florida for the 2022 elections?

I also am running for Co-chair of the Florida Green Party because I think America is on a dangerous path.  I believe the country is divided by cultural issues and not focused on fixing our country’s basic living needs and problems.  We need to focus on more qualified candidates and on the real issue— the economy, energy transition and the environment.  These three “E’s” translate into available housing and rental costs, health care and Rx prices, utility expenses, food and transportation costs, water preservation and coastal and inland protections.

We cannot get bogged down in the woke issues of the Democrats and Republicans.   People need help and need solutions now, and the Green Party of Florida should be on these front-line issues as an example for the entire party.

We need to run more candidates, register more voters, and better promote and publicize our solutions for Florida.

We need new and innovative leadership who will put in the work, and fight for all of the people of Florida.   I would appreciate your vote and support in the state officer elections at the FLGP July 23rd virtual convention.  If you are not a Green Party registered voter, I request your consideration to change

To the Green Party to help us expand and become more relevant.  Thank you.

Cordially,
Brian Moore
