Michigan Purges Its NatCon Delegates

In a letter to a prominent Michigan Libertarian, the LPMI indicated it was purging its list of NatCon delegates. The Michigan delegation has been reduced from 34 persons to 7. We are advised that all removed delegates were non-Mises in affiliation. Of the remaining delegates, six are non-Mises and one is the State Chair.

We quote the announcement letter:

Hello [Name Redacted by Editor]

In light of actions taken during the 9 March 2024 National Delegate Selection Convention, several appeals were referred to LPMI’s Judicial Committee (JC). The JC recently came to a decision on one such appeal which challenged the results of the national delegate selection vote due to invalid voters (that decision will soon publish through this link for anyone wishing to read it in full). As a result of this decision, delegates ranked 8-34 were demoted to alternates. Delegates 1-7 remain and are noted on the amended delegate list also available through this link.

In most years, this would result in the national Credentials Committee elevating alternates to delegates either by their rank or, if unranked, by drawing names to elevate at random. This process cannot occur this year due to one of the convention rules changes proposed from the floor by Mr. Mark King and adopted by the body. Namely, this rule requires that “The convention shall have the sole right to appoint delegates to the National Convention, and any unfilled delegate spot shall be considered filled by NOTA…”. Though this (and the other changes proposed) were the subject of one of the JC appeals, this motion remains in effect, as it complies with LPMI Bylaw VII.2, which states: “Rules governing [National Convention] delegate procedures shall be determined by action of the Convention…”. The final result is the reduction of the Michigan delegation to only the delegates ranked 1-7, with the remainder of the delegates and all alternates permanently removed from the list, as the (now adjourned) convention has the sole right to elect delegates as noted above.

Due to the intense scrutiny upon all actions of LPMI of late, which include a (frivilous and now dismissed) lawsuit against LPMI following the 9 March convention, it is imperative that Party leadership conduct all actions to the letter of our Bylaws. Only through this course can further litigation be avoided, or at least defeated should it arise. I implore all members of LPMI to consider the weight of actions contrary to the Bylaws by which we have all agreed to abide. Fraudulent actions constitute forceful actions, and we have all sworm the same solemn oath: “I oppose the initiation of force to achieve political or social goals”.

Despite the ugliness of these matters, we now face our true opponents in an election year. I look forward to seeing all of you at our Candidate Nominating Convention in Sault Ste. Marie on 20 July, and to supporting your campaigns. Here is to ever increasing our victories.

In Liberty,

Daniel Ziemba, Secretary

Libertarian Party of Michigan

As of 230 pm on May 20 the Chadderdon faction’s judicial committee majority decision referenced in the email above still has not been posted or sent to the 27 non-Mises Caucus delegates and and 11 non-Mises Caucus alternates it claims to disqualify from the Michigan delegation. The convention selecting those delegates occurred March 9. It certainly appears that rather than decide the appeal more than 2 months ago the Chadderdon faction’s judicial committee majority maliciously waited until now to do so in order to avoid the possibility of a court challenge and incidentally induce those delegates and alternates to waste thousands of dollars on their convention travel plans.

    Such a sad spectacle.

Ya have to love ❤️ how the people committing fraud by denying the decisions of their convention admit that they have violated the NAP.

This is a naked power grab by the Mises Caucus faction to exclude delegates who would vote to hold them accountable.

The fact that they have to resort to cheating shows you how little support they have from Libertarian Party members.

Note that this motion was adopted by the last convention: “The convention shall have the sole right to appoint delegates to the national convention and any unfilled delegate spots, shall be considered filled by none of the above. The secretary shall submit the list of MI delegates and alternates to national immediately upon the close of convention.” Because of this, the board cannot appoint delegates.

Would that be the same convention that appointed the delegates you’re trying to have thrown out? That convention there?
