LP 2026 National Convention Liveblog Arrived with updates.

I will liveblog the convention if I can find a link to a livestream.  If you see one, please advise at phillies@4liberty.net

I am advised by Joseph Miller that the convention is starting at 10AM this year; livestream may start closer to that time.

Repeating from Facebook, a source writes: “George Phillies per Paul Darr, an official livestream would have cost $6,000 due to the venue contract requiring union labor. They could not find volunteers to do it. Several individuals will be doing their own livestreams, but I don’t know where to find them.”

We will forward reports from friends on-site as they arrive.

We are advised, see comments, that they have not started yet as of 10:15.

Nick Sarwark writes: We are at ease until 11:00 AM, they are trying to get a live stream up.

Per Aloysius in comments: Per Sean Levasseur on Twitter, they are “at ease” until 11 AM and will have a livestream up at that time.

Pat Ford is speaking about convention events and announcing events.  Now a Parliamentarian is explaining parliamentary procedure. He gave a good explanation,

We come to order and reach the Credentials committee. 539 delegates, 15 alternates.  Committee has several items. One Republican tried to become a delegate.  A list of Michiganders asked to be New Mexico delegates, but state bylaws requires delegates to be residents. The outcome is unclear.  There is a motion to add the New Mexico delegates. No New Mexico residents are present. Martin claims that New Mexico bylaws permit the delegates. Dasbach says the New Mexico bylaws do not allow this.   Q from floor: Don’t national party bylaws require that at least one delegate must be a state resident? People on stage huddle around a computer screen trying to answer this arcane question. Chair rules there are no NM delegates so the Michigan people cannot be added. Motion to add Chrissy Wickers Ohio to the Ohio delegation. Redpath speaks in favor. Motion passes without objection. Motion to add Daniel Delrocco to the NY delegation. Motion requires 2/3 and passes. Someone tries to add a New Mexico person to their delegation. Harlos, point of order: Is he eligible under the New Mexico rules? Motion to postpone indefinitely.  Person was denied right to participate in the NM state convention so he cannot be a delegate. Q if the DC delegates can be sat if none of them are DC residents. Chair: no. Q how to fix the DC delegation. Jim Fulner (CT) moves the previous question.  It passes. The eventually remember to vote on the report itself. Motion carries.

Jake Porter on his substack is also live blogging.

They are returning.  They returned.  At 4:59 into the feed, during a speech by Amman Bundy, the feed cut off. We appear to be back again.  578 delegates are present.  There is a vote on whether or not the credentialing of the DC delegation was valid, because no one from DC is present. The delegation remains. They are adding delegates. Matters flowed through fairly smoothly.

The Treasurer’s report. There was a clean audit report.   April financial report went up on Wednesday and will be covered here eventually.

Chadderdon spoke. There is a question as to whether or not he is a delegate.

The ‘people’s bylaws amendments’ were turned down.  Someone proposed voting on the bylaws proposals as a unit.  Chair rules you must vote on the changes one at a time. Aaron Starr and Caryn Ann Harlos make excellent parliamentary points.  Jeremy Kauffman complains about the chair debate admission rules, which he says were not published in advance.  He was booed as he tried to speak.  Having been in a similar predicament, I feel sympathy for his complaint.

Amendment 1 is to go to ranked choice voting. Motion as offered is defeated.  Amendments are invited. Move to amend to replace ranked choice with instant run-off. Amendment fails. Amendment 2 is to change the process for removing people from the LNC. Motion fails. Amendment 3 proposes to go to electronic voting.  There was sustained intelligent discussion.  The motion passes. Amendment 4 proposes another way to count votes. Motion fails. Proposes to advance to Amendment 5. Require 20 seconds for any motion. Motion carries. Move to recess for 15 minutes. Motion fails.

Proposal 6 — Officers must be life members for one year before they can be elected as officers. Most debate opposes. Defeated.  Amendment ‘sustaining members for four years’.

Proposal 8 — Restructure LNC, replace regional representatives with at at-large members.   Motion fails. Amendment: Drop cumulative voting and 4/5ths.

Proposal 9 — ethics – people should not use their titles for personal gain.  Much support.  Bracco speaks against proposal; LNC members should be allowed by compensated. Count being done on 2/3.  Motion has not quite 2/3.  There is an amendment.   They postpone discussion of the motion until tomorrow. They recess to hear the keynote speaker.

There will be a chair debate at 9:30.

If someone notices what happened to Proposal 7, please advise.

Regarding Proposal 7: if I recall correctly, debate on the proposal had just barely begun when somebody called the question. Then Proposal 7 failed, nobody offered any amendments, so we moved on to Proposal 8. It was a blink-and-you-miss-it sort of deal.

They need to tack on time lost due to unnecessary stoppages at the end of the day like in soccer. And those of us who are soccer fans will recall that when they finally started adding the appropriate amount of stoppage time sometime around the 2022 World Cup, players quickly cut down on their time-wasting as they realized they couldn’t get away with it anymore, it would just lead to lengthy stoppage time at the end of the half to make up for it.

I believe proposal 7 was skipped.

Jeremy Kauffman’s remarks about the LNC debate were made at least partly at the request of the tellers. Apparently the Chair debate was going to include the four nominees who got the most signatures on their nominating forms. They only need 15 signatures to be nominated, but if they are collecting hundreds of signatures in order to be in the top 4, that’s tough on the tellers who have to record and validate each signature. It’s not fair on the volunteer tellers to dump this task on them at the last minute.

When Kauffman’s remarks were not well-received by the chair, head teller Mike Seebeck worked things out with the convention committee. All nominees for Chair will participate in the Chair debate, not just the top four signature-getters. The tellers do not have to record, verify, and count hundreds of signatures to determine who gets to participate.

    Source: me, a volunteer teller.

According to Travis Bost via email, they haven’t started yet even though they were supposed to start at 10 and it is currently 10:15. So maybe a livestream is coming?

Disgraceful, now they can destroy the party in secret. They could have raised donations if need be.

I would have written a check for $6000 for the livestream, if asked.
