Editorial: Why is the LNC Losing Money So Quickly?

Lose more money?

There was a failure to respond to the change in income. The former and current Treasurers failed to respond when budget expectations were not being met. The convention was the old board, and it lost several hundred thousand. I need to go back and listen to a recording of the meeting where Pat Ford spoke, once I find which month that was, to get the exact amount. There was petitioning for having a Presidential candidate on the ballot, including $45,000 allotted for Massachusetts, and some smaller amount for Maryland. There was an assumption as to how much money we would raise from interest on our cash on hand, a number that appeared highly improbable even before we started burning through our cash on hand, which has the effect of reducing income. There was the parity project — 66,000 national members in three years — when serious donors look at that, they conclude that the LNC’s thinking is not in touch with reality. Donors also note various lawsuits, barring the legitimate Massachusetts Libertarian group from having delegates a few conventions back and the consequences thereof, the antics of an obstreperous LNC member, failure to act against the New Hampshire people until the last convention, and suspect that there are other ways to spend their money. Each of these sentences could expand to several paragraphs.
