Toward a Granite State Party
Conversations with New Hampshire libertarians who conclude that Libertarian Party of New Hampshire’s antics have irretrievably damaged the good name of the Libertarian Party in that state have identified an alternative, namely launching a new political organization. This would not be a Libertarian Party.
The proposed name is “Granite State” leading toward the “Granite State Party”. A possible tag line is “Uniting to Build a Better New Hampshire”.
The party theme is ‘Solving Problems, Not Calling Names’.
The two inflexible positions, which could be phrased slightly differently, would be ‘100% Pro-Choice’ and ‘Standing 100% in Support of the Second Amendment’.
Important issues might include Better Education and Public Safety.
Better Education? One approach would be to assign to each child a tax credit, a dollar amount that a tax payer could take off their tax bill be spending the same number of dollars on improving the child’s education, no matter whether the child is in public school, charter school, private school, or home school. There would be a dollar limit on support for each child, but the money could be spent by anyone, for example the child’s parents’ employers.
Public Safety? There is concern about increasing crime, in particular people being shot, in some communities. Careful investigation reveals that most of these shootings are businessmen resolving franchising boundary disputes, the resolution being violent because the businessmen are engaged in the illicit purveyance of controlled narcotic substances, notably marijuana. Marijuana legalization would then improve public safety.
