The Paid Persuaders
The grift extended to the Convention’s losers. Mises Caucus nominee Michael Rectenwald (who lost the nomination to Oliver) and Mises Caucus founder and Rectenwald Campaign Manager Michael Heise were reportedly paid by the pro-Kennedy American Values PAC.
FEC records show Rectenwald took $24,000 and Heise took $15,000 for “national organizing.” Sources allege this “organizing” was actually lobbying state affiliates to sign on to the JFC—a move that suggests illegal coordination between a PAC and a campaign.

If Mr. Porter could do a basic search on the FEC website, he would have found that even if his facts were accurate that “national organizing” meant what he says it means, the FEC allows all types of FEC-regulated political committees to coordinate through a JFC. In other words, the actions he describes are not prohibited even in the most stringent of gotcha plays by the FEC because the coordination is done through the JFC not a candidate’s campaign.
Based on FEC Advisory Opinion 2024-07, the FEC permitted Team Graham, Senator Lindsey Graham’s campaign committee, to include a Super PAC within its existing Graham Majority Fund joint fundraising committee. This structure, which also includes his leadership PAC and the NRSC, must strictly adhere to federal contribution limits and prohibitions, avoiding “soft money” restrictions.
