GOP effort to knock Addison Patrick off the ballot failed.
Meeting came to order at 7:05PM Eastern.
All members were present. Agenda: Encumber $32,000 for the Maryland ballot access drive. The motion is made by the Chair.
Dasbach as chair of the ballot access committee spoke first. We are getting signatures at $7/signature.The petitions would get us ballot access for candidates including President through the 2030 election. Redpath endorsed. If President or Governor gets 1% of the vote, the ballot access extends by four years from that point. Signatures are good for two years.
Most signatures are from out-of-state petitioners.
Longstreth asks how we are doing financially. Knebel says expenditures and income were both down relative to last month. Hotel bills are still coming in. An LP News and a fundraiser have gone out to reach mailboxes next week.
Motion passes 7-0-1, Longstreth abstaining.
Motion to adjourn passes without objection.
I voted to abstain because, in asking the chair, who asked the treasurer, it was noted that the last month of both expenses and revenue were down as compared to the prior month, although exact numbers were not able to be provided given the month just ended. This was noted in the article.
Because I strongly believe in a balanced and practical budget, I was inclined to vote against this motion, however the LNC technically did expand the budget, even if the revenue is not yet secure. I voted to abstain because I do support the idea of ballot access but am conflicted about spending money that is not secured or realistically in budget. It is a tough place to be in.
Regardless, the LP of Maryland did have their encumbrance pass and I wish them the best of luck in completing their ballot access drive! I urge all libertarians who support ballot access initiatives to donate to the Libertarian Party at www LP.org/donate
