I am not publishing vote totals because they are not being reported on YouTube. I would need an image I can capture, which is not occurring. At 9AM there is a youtube signal but a static glyph and no sound apparent. 9:05 Chair calls for delegates to come to the room and take their seats. Call to order.
9:07 Moellman claims that under Roberts there is no way to reduce the number of delegates. There are 627 delegates and 13 alternates, even if some of them have checked out. VA Chair says one of her delegates has left. We advance to balloting for Treasurer. There are only two candidates.
Meanwhile, RJ1 has given us the results of the 2nd and 3rd ballots of the Chair Election:
Round 2 National Chair Results based on images shared in an LP Delegates group on Facebook:
Evan McMahon 241, James Ostrowski 236, Wes Benedict 110, Write-ins 12, NOTA 4
Round 3 National Chair Results:
Evan McMahon 320, James Ostrowski 265, Write-ins 1, NOTA 12
Wes Benedict has made a statement on the election:
Congratulations to Evan McMahon, the new LNC Chair! I placed 3rd of 6 in the first round. 3rd again in the second round. Then I endorsed Evan, and he won in the 3rd round. I wish Evan and the rest of the new LNC the best of success. I will continue supporting the Libertarian Party by recruiting and promoting Libertarian Party candidates via the Libertarian Booster PAC. You can find out more about the Libertarian Booster PAC at: https://libertarianboosterpac.org/
So soon as we reach tabulation, there will be At-Large speeches.
A speaker from the Sound Money Defense League, ‘a friend of Ron Paul and Tom Woods’, is introduced as a speaker. He quotes the restriction on states issuing paper money and falsely claims that it is a restriction on the Federal government. He is apparently unaware that the supply of gold and silver can fluctuate, just as the supply of paper money can fluctuate. After much more economic thinking of this sort, his speech comes to an end.
Speeches by At-Larges are reduced to one minute. We get speeches. They are done. Someone submits a resolution to elect the remaining members of Judicial Committee. Point of order: out of order. Debate starts and dies, as the Chair is consulting with the parliamentarian. Issue: A resolution is not a motion. Resolution is ruled out of order.
Doug Knebel is the new Treasurer. The vote totals were
Doug Knebel 311
Aaron Toman 159
NOTA 31
with thanks to Nick Sarwark for sending me the needed image.
The At-Large ballots were defective. They said to vote for one not to vote for as many as you wish. After telling people what to do, the vote continued. The outcome is seen below. Redpath, Nguyen, and Thompson were elected.

2024 Presidential candidate Chase Oliver gets to speak. He is loudly applauded at several points. There is now a loss of signal. The livestream has stopped.
Update correction thanks to Cara Schultz: Jeremy Kauffman was ejected from the convention.
The livestream has returned. There is a motion to go suspend the rules and go to a second round of balloting for the Judicial Committee. Motion fails. Motion to suspend the rules and elect the top-five Judicial Committee candidates who were not elected through lack of receiving a majority of the votes. Chair rules that the motion is substantially what has been voted on before and is out of order. The ruling is appealed. We get to a counted vote on the appeal of the chair’s ruling. Vote is 285-192 to sustain the chair’s ruling.
Motion to suspend rules to hear a resolution on Ian Freeman. Motion fails.
Motion to suspend rules in order to accept the top five vote getters. There is a counted vote. Motion fails. Geraci moves for second round limited to people who had more than 150 votes. Apparently the motion passed. However, when they voted, no one was elected out of the second round.
We lost youtube feed again.
We got the feed back. At the center microphone, someone tried to make off with the microphone. They were stopped. There was a physical altercation at the grab-the-mike level. The member trying to grab the mike was ordered to sit down, and complied. There is a motion to sustain the ruling of the chair. Vote was 215-198. Chair’s ruling is sustained.
Someone complains that Chadderdon bumped him. There is a motion to take up platform proposals 8 and 9 for 30 minutes without amendment. Motion fails. Point of personal privilege from Colorado delegation: Mr. Martin is playing the ukelele and making it impossible to hear the business.
Bylaws proposal 12 – if NOTA wins for President of Vice President, nominations are reopened, but prior candidates are ineligible. Motion carried.
Harlos – she had moved to reconsider and enter in the minutes, meaning the reconsideration can be taken up several days later.
There was a motion to elect Nekhaila as an At-Large Motion fails.
Motion to adjourn sine die passes.
Were there any delegates from New Mexico? Just curious, especially if any were really FROM New Mexico.
It’s hard to say unless someone who was physically present can speak to it.
I noted this while tracking results for IPR, but by the final day, several states appeared to have either very limited representation or no representation on the spreadsheet. During the treasurer’s race, Massachusetts and New Mexico had no delegate votes reflected, while New Hampshire had only one voting delegate listed, who voted for NOTA.
No and no.
The ballots WERE NOT DEFECTIVE!
The TALLY SHEETS had a typo.
The ballots were labeled index cards.
The by-laws really need to be changed for JC and At-Large LNC seats…. if less than 3 people have obtained a majority then the 2 highest non-majority vote-getters should be deemed elected (set a minimum percentage if you want; say 35%). If 3 or 4 people have a majority then the single next highest non-majority vote-getter should be deemed elected. That way you always come away with at least 2 and ideally a minimum of 4 elected. Even better would be single transferable, but largest plurality for a handful of seats seems fine.
No, they do not.
The Rules are simple: one ballot, top 5 or 7 with majority get elected. Rest are vacant, and under the Bylaws, either the LNC or JC fills their respective vacancies.
If the delegates wanted to elect them, they would have done so instead of diluting the vote among literally 17 candidates.
“either the LNC or JC fills their respective vacancies.” This is the absurd part; especially with the JC. Why should 2 people get to get to pack the JC with their friends?
It’s not the delegates fault that they diluted votes, they can’t possibly know what other delegates will do, especially with one ballot.
I’m sorry, but it’s absolutely dumb system.
Because the idea was to have the Judicial Committee be independent.
If it’s a dumb system, then work to change it.
Frankly, it isn’t dumb at all.
You just don’t like it because it didn’t give the outcome you wanted.
No, I just genuinely think it’s a dumb system. I like Avens. She’s actively been in the party for a long time. I trust her. I would have voted for her, if I was a delegate. Ken Moellman I have some reservations about. If I had my way, the JC would be Avens, CAH, and then probably Seebeck and Porter. I don’t even recognize the other names honestly, other than Roos and Chadderdon (which are both a hard no), so can’t say about the last 3 seats.
I just believe that two people shouldn’t be filling more than half of the seats; it just comes across as oligarchical to me.
I’m not seeing how the JC being independent has anything to do with what I’m saying though. I’m saying that a couple of seats (meaning at most 2 seats) should be filled by the delegates with a sizeable (35%+) plurality, if the majority of seats (4) haven’t been filled by the delegates using a majority vote. If they’ve filled at least 4 seats by delegate majority, then I’m good you don’t need the process I’m talking about. It’s just a fall back to make sure (ideally) at least 4 seats are filled by the delegates.
Incredible. They kill the feed just as Chase Oliver is criticizing the clowns. Coincidence? You decide.
Good morning, George! I was able to verify some vote totals for IPR’s open thread. Please feel free to use whatever is helpful.
